Ultrasound-guided infraclavicular axillary vein cannulation for central venous access.
BACKGROUND Infraclavicular axillary vein cannulation is not commonly used for central venous access because identifying the surface landmarks is difficult. Ultrasound guided axillary vein puncture has not been well described. We assessed ultrasound imaging to guide catheterization of the infraclavicular axillary vein. METHODS In 200 consecutive patients we attempted to catheterize the axillar...
متن کاملImportance of the Upper Extremity Position for a Safe and Effective Axillary Block: a Comparative Study.
OBJECTIVE Our aim was to determine the ideal position of upper extremities during ultrasonography guidance for axillary block. The position that provides the shortest distance between the median and musculocutaneous nerves was assumed to be the most appropriate position for axillary block. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 120 (45 female and 75 male) patients were placed in a position wi...
متن کاملMidterm Experience of Ipsilateral Axillary-Axillary Arteriovenous Loop Graft as Tertiary Access for Haemodialysis
Objectives. To present a series of ipsilateral axillary artery to axillary vein loop arm grafts as an alternative vascular access procedure for haemodialysis in patients with difficult access. Design. Retrospective case series. Methods. Patients who underwent an axillary loop arteriovenous graft from September 2009 to September 2012 were included. Preoperative venous imaging to exclude central ...
متن کاملAxillary arterial thrombosis secondary to anterior shoulder dislocation.
We report the case of a 59-year-old male patient who returned to the Hospital with severe pain in the right upper arm, 9 hours after reduction of an anterior dislocation of the right shoulder. A thrombosis of the axillary artery was quickly diagnosed and the rapid treatment allowed revascularisation in the arm without any major consequences.
متن کاملAxillary arch may affect axillary lymphadenectomy.
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to identify the axillopectoral muscle anomaly commonly known as Langer's axillary arch, and to understand its importance in surgical procedures of the axilla. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 2009 and 2011, 758 patients underwent sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary dissection, or both. Patients with Langer's axillary arch were identified and assessed retrospe...
